Shopify suddenly increases the plan pricing

One of the most widespread e-commerce platforms, Shopify, published a post with information about the significant price changes. It is worth reminding that for the previous 12 years, the pricing was virtually unchanged.

The changes affected all three available plans - Basic, Shopify, and Advanced. However, the company allows the existing merchant to keep the current pricing if they switch to annual payments before the 23rd of April.

The prices increased for about a quarter. The cost of the cheapest plan, Basic, increased from $29 to $39, Shopify grew from $79 to $105, and Advanced from $299 to $399 per month. In addition, the company was offering a paid trial for the Basic plan available for $1 for the first three months. Now, this discount is not available. Shopify offers a separate Starter plan that costs $1 for the first three months and is targeted for selling on social media.

The company explains that the price growth in the following way:
“Shopify, and the tools that we build, have always been driven by an insatiable desire to make more possible tomorrow than is imaginable today. Our mission is to enable more entrepreneurs and more kinds of businesses to build and create across all surfaces, all around the world.”.

So, it looks like they will continue working on new tools, such as Shopify Flow, Shop Promise, and Shopify Audiences, or create something new that requires significant money investments.
